William was born in Coffee County Tennessee and the family migrated to Texas.

He was a member of the Texas Rangers 20 Jan – 7 Sep 1860 with the rank of Private.  He was also on a Scout muster roll.  When the Civil War broke out, he joined the 16th Texas Infantry Regiment, Company C (April 1862 – April 1865).  He was awarded a pension by the State of Texas on Sep. 19, 1907 (Pension # 12848).

He died in New Richland Springs (San Saba County).

A very extensive work was published in 1985 (The Shipp Family Genealogy by Ralph D. Shipp) that traced our Shipp line to the 1600s and their migration from England to America.

Martha was the seventh child of Martin Casner and Louisa Jane Medford.  She had 10 children with her husband William, including Ada (4/10).  After the Civil War, her family decided to move to California.  Martha chose to stay in Texas with William, and she lived there for the rest of her life.

She died in San Saba County Texas.
