Grandma Lilly’s wits and memory were as sharp as anyone in the family when she was 90 years old. She would do crossword puzzles in ink and never miss. My discovery of old genealogy records would only serve to verify her recollection of events. Sometimes her recollection clarified an unclear vital record.

She was born in the Bronx NYC and died in the Carolinas Medical Center Main in Charlotte NC of sepsis due to pyelonephritis.

She was named for Toba’s mother, Laja (Laya) Gytla Rosen. She married my grandfather Michael Malkin on April 5, 1935. They had three children Sue (my mother, Steven, and Abby).
