Max Malkin and his wife Celia (nee Schneiderman) arrived in the United States in 1906.  They were from a Shtetl called Chashniki in the Province of Vitebsk (in present day Belarus).  Aunt Lee has said that their name in Belarus was “Malushnikoff” and it was changed to Malkin when they  arrived in the USA.  It is believed that they arrived through Ellis Island, a search of the new on-line Ellis Island Records Website could not find them.
