The Setzler Family

This branch of the family emigrated from Germany.

Laura was washing clothes in the way of the time; stirring the clothes in a kettle of boiling water over an open fire outside.  She was wearing a long dress.  When she went too close to the flames, the dress caught fire.  Laura panicked and ran.  Family members chased her and put out the fire.  Laura had suffered severe burns and died soon after.

Adam, Catherine, and their son Johannes came to South Carolina around 1764 and settled in the area known at Dutch Fork (Spartanburg/Newberry County). Adam died soon after arriving.
