Richard Brookes Hooper
May 17, 1756 – Jan 6, 1846
Richard
B Hooper enlisted in the Continental Army of the Revolutionary War at Lunenburg
courthouse VA. on March 1776. He served in the 6th Virginia Regiment (the
famous VIRGINIA BLUES) under Capt. Johnson for two years and was discharged at Chesterfield courthouse
VA. In March of 1779, he volunteered
again and served under Capt. Winn. He marched to Halifax
NC, then to Stono SC
where he was placed under the command of Gen. Lincoln of the regulars. He then marched to Charleston SC
where he received a discharge from Capt. Winn.
He volunteered a third time at Halifax
in 1781 under Capt. William Dawson and was in the battle of Guilford Courthouse
NC where six balls were shot through his clothing. He served 3 months as 2nd
Sgt.
He
married Elizabeth Adams Word on 13 Jan 1783.
Elizabeth
was first married to Charles Word.
Charles was killed in the battle of King’s Mountain.
Richard
received a Revolutionary War soldier’s pension on 28 Jan 1833.
