She was actually born as Minnie Berlin in Brooklyn NY.  Mildred was a name she called herself later in life.  She married my grandfather Jacob Solomon on February 21, 1926.  Click here to see their marriage certificate.  On Jacob’s naturization petition, he notes Mildred’s birthday as February 7, 1902. They had two children, Robert and Edward (my father).

Grandma Mildred was very loving and devoted to her family.  We were an Air Force family and stationed all over the world.  No matter where we lived (Germany, Panama, Ecuador, and all over the US), she always came to visit us on a regular basis.  When she arrived at the airport to see us, she was ALWAYS ALWAYS the first one off the plane.  To this day, I don’t know how she did it.

She lived in Brooklyn her entire life, but came to live in Austin to be closer to us in her final days.  Nobody made knishes and latkes better than Grandma Mildred (except for maybe Grandma Lilly).

She is buried in New Montefiore Cemetery next to her husband.

Her birth was not recorded, so after her husband died, she had to file to create a “delayed” birth certificate so she could file for social security

NY officials took her school and census records and the testimony her sister Mary.
